He is, however, reportedly in hiding. A source that spoke to The Atlantic said, “I would suspect this is a disinformation campaign.” The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other American staff members were killed in the attacks, while protesters in Egypt stormed the U.S. Embassy and replaced its American flag with an Islamic banner. The filmmaker defended his anti-Muhammad movie in a phone interview with the Associated Press on Tuesday, calling Islam a “cancer” and explaining that Innocence of Muslims, which he wrote and directed, is meant to be a political statement condemning the religion.

All good things must come to an end. In a farewell email to his staff Friday, co-chairman and CEO of 20th Century Fox, Tom Rothman, announced his resignation. “I’ve done the same thing, at the same place, for a long time,” the movie mogul wrote. While his resignation letter gave no hint as to his future plans, Rothman did wax poetic on his past eighteen years at Fox: “let me say, how eternally grateful I will always be for the privilege and the honor of having had this job…quite simply, the best, most talented, and the kindest colleagues in the world.” Beginning January 1, 2013, all studio operations will be handed over to co-chairman Jim Gianopulos.

This time the Internet really might break. A Danish magazine has released pictures of a fully nude Kate Middleton, in addition to topless shots of the duchess on her honeymoon. Buckingham Palace sued the French magazine that originally released the relatively tame topless pics of Kate. “We are a leading gossip magazine in Denmark, and it is my job to publish them,” Se og Hor editor Kim Henningsen told the Belfast Telegraph, adding that the magazine will just have to “deal with it” if the royal family sues.

New York’s district attorney must be a 30 Rock fan. The Manhattan D.A.’s office announced on Wednesday that it will not prosecute Alec Baldwin over his scuffle with a photographer earlier this year. The incident took place on June 19, when Daily News photographer Marcus Santos caught Baldwin leaving the City Clerk’s office after getting a marriage license. At the time Santos claimed that the actor punched him on the chin. But prosecutors decided to drop the matter, and a source said “no charges will be brought. The matter has been dropped entirely. His conduct did not rise to the level of a crime.”

Young adult fiction pioneer Judy Blume posted on her blog that she underwent a successful mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in June. Blume, who’s 74, wrote in her typical frank fashion that she’d “joined The Club,” albeit “not one I wanted to join or even thought I would ever be joining.” In her revealing post, she included personal views on cancer and her own sexuality. “The idea of a mastectomy wasn’t a difficult emotional decision for me (again, these are very personal reactions and decisions). Maybe because my breasts have never defined my sexuality. Who knows?”

The signs were there that Justin Bieber’s two-year relationship with Selena Gomez was, as Katy Perry would say, “crashing from the high.” People reports on a few specific incidents that foreshadowed the union’s demise: in June, Bieber was late to a TV spot, citing a fight with Gomez; in July, Gomez was “crying about Justin” at Ashley Tisdale’s birthday party; and last month Bieber posted an Instagram photo of himself with the caption “Just me.” Bieber was also spotted hanging with Victoria’s Secret models in N.Y.C. this week.
